Position Summary Electrical Controls engineers at Matrix work with our clients on multiple projects to solve their problems through design of electrical control panels, MCCs, and VFD panels. The position includes designing low voltage (typically 480VAC or less) systems for our client's automated processes. Process Engineer (Distillery Focus) Process Solutions Engineering    Location: Maumee, OH / Denver, CO / Indianapolis, IN / REMOTE   Job Type: Full Time, Direct   Job Status: Exempt, STOT Eligible    Reports to:  Department Manager, Process Engineering   Description: Matrix is looking for an engineer with experience in the Distillery industry, or other related industries.    Work as the owner’s engineer to specify equipment, design processes and piping, and deliver high quality construction packages for contractor bidding and construction.   Process engineers work with our clients on multiple projects to ultimately solve their problems through PFD and P&ID development, equipment and instrument specification, and hydraulic system calculations. Interact with the client’s project team and the Matrix project team to ensure the best solution is implemented. Overnight travel is sporadic and is normally limited to four nights or less.    Duties & Responsibilities: - This position will be responsible for process mechanical design, process equipment and installation specifications, vendor and contractor management, and knowledge of process electrical / control and instrumentation design integration, as well as installation and start-up support. - Provide support and technical leadership on capital projects as well as supporting clients with improving the current performance of their manufacturing processes - This position requires an expert knowledge of process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, mass & heat balances, basic piping system design, pump sizing, material handling methods, equipment, functional & installation specifications, as well as process instrumentation & control principles. - Project work may vary, and may involve process upgrades, expansions, integrations and/or new process design - As a member of the process team, you are responsible for preparing project scope packages and formal design packages, conducting process engineering analysis, preparing reports and providing process recommendations - Process commissioning and start-up is also a responsibility of this position - A working knowledge of ASME and NFPA codes - Ability to travel   Specifications: - Be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship - Ability to travel 25-30% - Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering - Professional Engineering certification preferred - Ten (10) plus years of experience leading process design efforts - Experience with PFD & P&ID development, hydraulic network calculation, relief valve and process instrument specification, and experience with the general arrangement of process equipment - Experience in the distillery industry is preferred. The role requires an in depth knowledge of building codes and the ability to interpret and communicate economical solutions for new construction and existing building modifications.  The ideal candidate will have an understanding of all building systems including structural, fire protection, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.  This position will be responsible for managing a variety of projects, and will coordinate the work of other architects, engineers, technical assistants, and designers.   While we value all of our candidates, employer Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.   Responsibilities - Works in a safe manner at all times.  Adheres to both Matrix and client established safety standards when appropriate. - Lead project designs, direct other architects and designers to complete architectural designs in accordance with accepted practices and company standards - Assist with and lead the development of contract documents including Revit models, drawings, details, specifications, and installation scopes of work. - Manage discipline project budgets utilizing Work Breakdown Structures Report (WBS), segregating tasks and associated costs in accordance with scope of work outlines in project proposals - Supervise and direct assigned project personnel and control projects including productivity, man-hours used, project changes, and adherence to predefined scope of services. - Maintain and submit accurate budget and schedule forecasts to Project Manager, Department Manager, and Client for evaluation of productivity and schedule variance. - Maintain project correspondence file to include project-related memos, letters, scope change documentation, and associated documents. - Mentor other architects and designers to facilitate a learning experience for subordinate personnel. - Work with Department Manager for team improvements, technology needs, sales strategies, proposal development and production efficiency. - Maintain positive client relations and develop potential work opportunities. Specifications - Accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree is required - Master of Architecture is preferred - Minimum of 5 years of experience as a registered Architect in Industrial Architecture - Successful completion of Intern Development Program (IDP) - Successful completion of Architect Registration Exam (ARE) - State Registered - Must be able to travel: up to 20% local/daytime travel and 5% overnight travel annually Physical Requirements - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, and hear.   - The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. - Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. - This employee may perform industrial field work which could include exposure to hazardous locations, inclement weather, moving mechanical parts, noise, ladders, uneven ground, and stairs.
